Nuclear option on v11

This applies to all v11 products

If after installing an update you are experiencing new issues that you didn't have before the update, there's a good chance that some files either got corrupted or the new files didn't quite install properly.

In that case, the nuclear option consists of doing a full uninstall, followed by the Clean tool, followed by the install of the latest FULL version available.  Follow these steps according to your product line.

1. Close all programs.

2. Disconnect the USB security device.

3. Uninstall from the Windows Control Panel.

4. Run EO Clean for Embroidery Office products or ERA Clean for Design Era products.

5. Reboot the computer.

6. Back to the Desktop after the reboot, reconnect the USB security device and install the latest FULL version available. ***

While the video shows mainly how to cut the wave pattern into graphic text, you can apply the same concept to cut any kind of shape into any graphic object - not just text.

v11.10 Service Pack

Version 11.10 has been released (download, instructions, what's new).

An issue has been encountered, however, when opening DSG files from earlier versions that had text strings that have not been turned into sections.

This Service Pack addresses that issue.  Download to your Desktop, then run the EXE file.

Note: close all programs before running this patch, and reboot the computer once the Service Pack has been installed.

Installing free Fonts?

With the recent release of free Fonts for all users who upgraded to v11 during the early bird special, it's always a good time to remember that you must close all EO programs, or the new Fonts will not be recognized!

Also, there are two types of free Fonts - those that require a password, and those that don't.

If a free Font requires a password is because it's released via Service Center, so you will have gotten the install instructions along with the password to install it.

If a free Font does not require a password, then you just need to follow these instructions to install it.

Ready to upgrade to v11?  Were you expecting the free Fonts?

Give yourself some room in the letter spacing box, more than usual because

Actually this is a sewout with both names in a silgle line. It will be
about 12 inches tall by 1 1/2 wide (goes on a long ribbon). I tried with a
digitized font and it would generate the first name but when I tried it with
both names it would not generate. Is there a limit on size with letteing that I
am not aware of? It would not generate with the true type font at all. I watched
the object manager and nothing shows up there either. thanks for your help.

When I tried that method, and resized to fit the dimensions I needed or changed
the sewing properties,(column width, underlay, and changed to fill instead of
satin stitching) it lost everything. I was finally able to generate the first
name in a different true type font, then change to the tinker toy font. Then I
did the 2nd name the same way. I did this by using the cntrl enter after each
letter like you suggested in your first e-mail. I had been going to the
lettering box and hitting enter after each letter. Bottom line-I was able to get
it done after I shut the program down and restarted it. (about 6 times). So
thanks for all your help--maybe it is a problem with my computer--I am sure it
is not the program, just something stupid on my part.

What's great in the way that Daniel showed you..... is that, after you do this,
you can save a template in the arrange menu so that all you will have to do is
click on the template and your letters will be stacked. All you will have to do
is adjust the spacing.

More FREE Fonts for v11

All the same free Fonts from the User Community that were available for EO v9.xx are still available for EO v11.xx (Script MT, Greek Block, Athletic1, etc).  Just remember to validate them through the EO Component Manager.

Also, if you received the Gift Pack from the Service Center for v9.xx, this is still available for v11 as well (Green Dinodaur, Survivant, Proyect).  Instructions here.  The same applies to the Curlz font that you may have had available during v9.xx in your Service Center account.

Last but not least, all those who upgraded to v11 during the months of March-April, will also receive 3 additional Fonts at the end of the promotion (Fancy, Wake, Glamour Girls).

Installing Gift Pack on EO11

Instructions for installing Gift Pack on EO11

1. If you're on the early v11.00 release of EO, make sure you update the setup file.
Close all programs >> download this ZIP file to your Desktop >> then open it to reveal the Eosetup_1100.exe file inside >> double-click on this EXE file to run it.

2. If you haven't already, download the Gift Pack.
Login to the Service Center >> click on the "Free Fonts Pack 2009-1" link at the top of the page >> download the GiftPack.exe installation file to your Desktop >> download the xxxxxx-GiftPack.scp password file to your Desktop (where xxxxxx is the number on your USB key).

3. Install the Gift Pack and validate it with the right password
Locate the GiftPack.EXE file you saved to your Desktop on the previous step >> double-click on it to run it >> follow on-screen instructions to "install" >> when the EO Setup window appears, choose Enable Purchased Design Components >> on the area at the bottom of the window, choose the xxxxxx-GiftPack.SCP password file you saved to your Desktop on the previous step >> choose Install.

4. Your Gift Pack is now installed.
You should have these 3 Fonts in your Font Library: Green Dinodaur, Proyect and Survivant.

Note: if you'd like to confirm the font files went to the right folder, you will find the DFONT files in the hidden Resources folder:
- WinXP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sierra\EODesign\Resources
- Win7: C:\Users\All Users\Sierra\EODesign\Resources

Reinstalling Purchased Components on v11?

If you upgraded to EO v11 and are having trouble using, installing or locating optional Components or Component Packs purchased in earlier versions, there was an issue with the setup file on the original v11.00 release.

The solution is to download this ZIP file and run the executable (EXE) file inside.  After doing this, you should be able to reinstall the optional Components or Component Packs purchased in earlier versions and have EO11 recognize them.

To reinstall the optional Components, simply login to your Service Center account and access the list of Purchased Components under the product Registration section.  Click on each purchased item to receive an email with instructions (see pic below).

Q: How do you know when to do a stitch lock?  How do I know where to put stitch locks and cuts?

A: Exit locks should go wherever a thread will be trimmed, either by machine or by hand, so the remaining thread doesn't unravel.

Entry locks should go wherever the machine starts sewing, both at the beginning of a design and right after every machine trim or color change.

You can get away sometimes with no entry locks, but you'll never get away with no exit locks.

Trims should go wherever you want the machine to trim, assuming your machine has auto trimmers.

Generally speaking, a trim should always be preceded by a lock.

Lock Stitches on v9

NOTES:
- This is for individual wireframe objects only.
- Text that hasn't been "exploded" or turned into sections does NOT qualify as individual wireframe objects, because the lettering is still in text mode, so locks should still be added through the Lettering ribbon.
- A stitch file is NOT an individual wireframe object either, and lock stitches should be manually added in Stitch Editing mode.
- Again, the above is for individual wireframe objects only.

Large Block 30 mm

If your Sierra Font Library shows the Large Block 30 mm but does not allow you to use it, you may need to reinstall your software or run through the EO Setup process to re-enter your password (Start >> All Programs >> Embroidery Office >> EO Setup >> Install System >> choose the last valid SPP password file for your software).  Large Block is one of the 117 system Fonts available on EO9.

Viewing DST index names

When you export designs in Tajima format directly to a floppy, you may end up with the typical G001.DST name on the target directory.

If you want to reveal the actual name of the original file in Embroidery Explorer, make sure you set your View mode to Details.  The original name will then be listed under the Remarks column (see pic below).

Embroidery Explorer will be under the Start >> All Programs >> Embroidery Office menu.

v7 Compatibility Pack

If you upgraded to EO9 from an earlier version, you will have noticed that Fill Patterns underwent a name change.

What this also means is that, if you try to open a DSG from an older version on EO9, you may get a warning message that a Fill Pattern from an older version has been replaced with the default (the software will automatically use the new "Default" pattern in this case).

If you want to ensure the software retains the old Fill Patterns when you load the original DSG in EO9, make sure you download the Compatibility Pack from the Service Center (see pic below) or from this alternate location.

If you upgraded to EO9 from an earlier version, you will have noticed that Fill Patterns underwent a name change.

If you want to ensure the software retains the old Fill Patterns when you load the original DSG in EO9, make sure you download the Compatibility Pack from the Service Center (see pic below).

Instructions for reinstalling Stitch Era Universal *IF* the typical LiveUpdate process doesn't get you up to date:

Unistall from Control Panel.
Reboot.
Download and run EraClean.
Reboot.
Install SEU from v10 CD.
DO NOT open software after install process is complete.  Just reboot when done.
Back to Desktop after reboot, download and install v10.03 here. (install instructions here)
Reboot when done.

Opening / Saving issues?

If you're experiencing error messages at the time of input / output operations, and a simple reinstall doesn't put everything back in order, you may be a victim of a very invasive monitoring utility running in the background.

If the error only happens when saving, then it's a Machine Profile issue.  If it happens only when opening a file, then it's a Machine Code Interpreter issue.  If it happens in both instances, and the two links above haven't addressed the issue, then try manually registering this DLL file.

Tech Talk: Lock Stitches

LH: Regarding. Lock stitches, I still don't get the differences and when you would use the different options. does the manual give more detail on that?

DF: The main purpose of a lock is functional, not visual, so there's no golden rule as to which one to use when, as long as it serves that purpose and doesn't create a visual mess and / or a thread break.

You'd use a lock stitch right before a machine trim or color change to prevent the thread from unraveling. If you don't have a trim but the thread between sections is long enough to trim it by hand, you'd use one too.

The "classic" is the one I'd normally use for any of the above, unless there's another section covering the lock stitch, in which case I may also use either twist or star, usually at 200%.

You'd also use a lock stitch when the needle hits the fabric first, as in the beginning of a design and at the beginning of every section following a trim or color change.

Here I'd use a star, unless it's closer to the edge of the object and there's no section covering that edge, in which case I'd use a twist, either one at 200%.

File Association issues?

If you recently installed Sierra software, you may find that all the files that used to open in other software have now defaulted to your Sierra software.  Reinstalling the old software should revert that situation to the previous condition, or you can simply reassign file associations.

Fonts from earlier versions

On earlier versions there were some Fonts circulating in the Embroidery Office community that were not part of the original Sierra software because they were not digitized by Sierra.

While we look for a way to bring these "non-official" Fonts under the Sierra EO9 umbrella, if your v9 software is Design Maxx Pro or Expert, or any level with the Font Creation module added after your purchase, you can convert these Fonts yourself.

Linework Design

Needles not Contiguous?

If you're getting a "Needles are not Contiguous" message, it means that you created your design using colors that were not in sequential order.

If the first object of your design was assigned needle #2 on the screen, your second object was assigned needle #5, etc, you will end up with a color sequence of 2-5-7-10-3, etc.

This doesn't create a problem per se on the DSG file, which can retain the color information in the design.  However, at the time of exporting that design into a stitch file (DST, EXP, HUS, PES, etc), it *might* create a problem at the time of sewing out the design, with the main symptom being that you'd lose a color change somewhere in the process.

This is why at the time of exporting, if your color assignment was not sequential, you'll get the message of "Needles are not Contiguous", and you are also prompted to fix it.

Choosing "yes" to fix it basically means that the software will reshuffle the needles so instead of 2-5-7-10-3, etc, you end up with 1-2-3-4-5, etc.

So, if you ever had a 5-color design but the machine only asked you for 4 colors, yet when you load the DSG back on the screen all 5 colors are there, but the machine keeps losing a color change in the process and asking for 4... you've been suffering from bad-color-assignmentitis, and the Doctor will prescribe a "yes" to the "Needles are not Contiguous" message.

Looking for a hidden file?

If your technical support staff asks you for the EOINST.LOG and PIC.BLG diagnostic files from the computer where you're running your Sierra software, you won't be able to get to them if Windows is set to "hide" them from the general view, unless you change these settings.

EO9 on a Mac?

While EO9 is not officially supported, there are users in the Mac world running EO9 on their systems without a glitch.  A user sent us the screen capture of his EO9 running on his Mac via Parallels Desktop.  (he's in Portugal, so he's running EO9 in Portuguese as you can see on the picture below)

Nancy: I would like to see if there is a way to change the order that the color information prints out in the simple print format. Currently it prints the needle number then the color in a little block then the line name, then the code number. I would really like to see the code name before the name of the thread. The name of the thread is useless to me but it takes up the whole column so I can't see the thread code number. Is there a way to reverse the info? In some thread lines it prints differently but I use Gunold-Stikma-Sulky thread and have to end up writing the color numbers after printing which is a wasted step! I know I can print more info through the more detailed print features, but if I could change this info the simple print is faster and all I need most of the time.

Ian: Not sure if I'm explaining this correctly in your case... but you can create your own thread line. Yes, the software will display the "line"(brand) first,but you could abriviate this (Say A for akermann) then rb3600 for the color (Royal and color number). You are basically coding your own inventory. It may be a little of a pain to do this in the begining, but as you added new thread to your stock, you'd just follow your own "code" and enter new thread to your pallete. Because you shortend the amount of info, it should fit in the printout.

Nancy: Thanks Ian, this is worth attempting! When you create your own thread line is it editable? I had tried this with an older version and everything had to be entered at once, if I tried to go back and change a color I had to start over! That was not useful, but if I can make changes it would be very useful! I'll give it a try.

Ian: Nancy, I just tried, and I can edit after the fact... though is seems a little clumsy and not super intuitive, it does work and it will print on the most basic form.

Nancy: Actually, I think it is going to work fairly well! Yes, it will take a block of time that I don't have this month, but it will give me what I want on a one page printout that still prints the design full size. The detailed print outs are mostly (not all) smaller or the center of the design isn't marked or just more info than I need. Thank you so much for the suggestion!

Changing DST colors via Object Manager

If you have Design Maxx or higher on v9, there is another way you can edit color changes on DST files other than through the Stitch List.  Because the Object Manager sees stitch groups as separate objects, you can easily select multiple objects and assign the same color to all of them at once.

You can watch the video clip (YouTube) of how to accomplish this, or you can download the higher quality original AVI video file (RAR).

Text box too small?

If you use certain programs, such as Twill Stitch Pro, you probably deal with PLT files. If that's the case, you may run into this issue while using EO9.

McAfee issue!

***UPDATE*** Issue has been resolved by McAfee with 5627 DAT update on 5/26/09

If you turned on your computer on Friday, May 22nd, 2009, and your Sierra software was not working at all, and/or your McAfee antivirus protection gave you a W32/IRCBot.gen.z error message, your latest update deifnition from McAfee as of that date (5622 DAT, from 5/22/09) is the reason why.

McAfee is aware that this 5622 DAT release will cause a False Positive on safe, legitimate applications, and they claim to be working on a solution for their users.

In the meantime, there is something you can do on your end to make your Sierra software work around this McAfee issue, however it is something you will have to do every time you reboot your computer.

Basically, this false positive from McAfee causes a few files to be quarantined by the antivirus. What you need to do is remove them from the quarantine list so your Sierra software will work normally.

After your next reboot, however, it will be necessary to repeat the process of removing the same files from the same quarantine list.

The files are:
- compmngr.exe
- eoactivation.exe
- eod.exe
- eoexplorer.exe
- eosetup.exe
- eoupdate.exe
- machinemgr.exe
- patedit.exe
- ssp.exe

As far as restoring files in McAfee, you should really contact them for support, however this is a list of steps that has successfully provided a temporary solution for the two people that originally reported the issue:

Open McAfee Security Center >> Advanced Menu >> Restore tab >> Files >> check all files from the above list (total of 9 files) >> Restore.

Can't read older DSG files on v9?

If you're not able to open DSG files from v7.xx or earlier on EO9, there's a possibility your DSG files have text strings that have not been turned into sections in the original version they were created in.  If that's the case, this patch will resolve the issue.

Note: if you get an error related to a "missing component" when reading older DSG files, the above patch will do absolutely nothing for you.  A missing component is exactly that - a Font or Fill Pattern that you used on the older version that you don't have installed on the new one.

If you don't have DSG files from v7.xx or earlier, i.e. because you started using this software on v8.xx and later, you will not need this patch.

If your DSG files from v7.xx or earlier have text that was turned into sections, you will not need this patch either.

Editing DST Color Changes via Object Manager

While all levels of EO9 offer the Stitch List for editing of DST files, the functionality of the Object Manager in the digitizing levels will also provide a quick and easy way to edit color changes on DST files, on one or several sections at the same time.

Here is a short video on how to make several sections of a DST file the same color.

Jittery Screen Blues?

If your EO screen seems to be jittery, make sure your video card settings are set to maximum performance. Below are 3 easy steps to accomplish this in EO9. (video)

Note: on earlier versions the terminology and location of menu items is different, however it's usually located under Tools >> Settings, or under Setup >> Options & Preferences, based on the software version.

1. Click on the EO9 Application Button, then on Options and Preferences.

2. From the column on the left side of the window, choose Video Card Settings.

3. Now set your Video Hardware Acceleration to 3, and make sure your Antialias box is checked.

Click OK out of the window, and you should see a major improvement. Please note however that a separate video card with sufficient video memory is strongly recommended for best video performance.

Registry fix for Tree View

Version 8.31 is now available!

This new release addresses an issue that appeared at times when upgrading from v8.11 or earlier directly to v8.30.  This issue did not appear at all when upgrading from v8.20 to v8.30.

Some systems did not gain some of the added features from v8.30 when upgrading to that version, such as Branching, On-Screen Live 3D, Group / Ungroup, etc.  This release addresses that issue as well.

As always, LiveUpdate continues to be the easiest way to bring your system up to date.  However, make sure there are no firewall issues on your computer preventing it from establishing communication with our server.  LiveUpdate is a service free of charge, and is available on your software start page.

If you need to download the files instead to perform an offline installation, you will find the different downloads available at the Service Center.

NOTE!  If you're performing an offline installation, make sure you select the appropriate download:

Cumulative Update is to install on top of earlier v8 installs
Incremental Update is to install over v8.30 installs only
Full Version is to install v8 on a computer that didn't have it before, or if you need to perform the same install that a brand new v8.31 cd would do
LiveUpdate should be used whenever possible for easier, better, faster installs

A couple of things to mention now that EO v8.30 has been released...

The LiveUpdate feature from EO8 continues to be the easiest, simplest and quickest way to keep your software up to date.

LiveUpdate, however, requires that your software is on a computer that's connected to the internet, and that there are no firewall issues on your computer preventing you from establishing a proper connection with the LiveUpdate server.

If you wish to manually download the v8.30 files, there are 3 different versions at the download page, and so you may be wondering which one you should install.

Here's a who's who of the versions available for download:

FULL UPDATE: this is for all users that are already on v8.xx, particularly for those that are not on v8.20 at the time of the download (v8.20 was the version immediately preceding v8.30).

INCREMENTAL UPDATE: this is for users of v8.20 only.  DO NOT install this version if you are on any v8.xx prior to v8.20 (i.e. v8.11, v8.10, v8.05, etc).

FULL VERSION: this is for people that have never been on any v8.xx.  Or, if you're having any kind of trouble with either one of the above downloads, you can try this download, for this version supercedes them all.

Font Height Preview on v8.30

The Font Height box in your EO8 lettering window will reflect the final height of the text cell, not neecssarily that of the actual letters.

On v8.30, you can now preview the actual height of your tallest uppercase letter.  Look for this height preview number next to the text width percentage box, in the area where you normally define your text size. (see picture below)

Service Center login?

If you forgot the password to access the Service Center, or if you need to change your login info, follow these steps:

1. Go to the Service Center main page.

2. Once there, follow the link for forgotten password.

3. Fill out your information on the next screen, and click Request Password.

4. You will then receive an email with a new password.  The email will be sent to whichever email address you provided in the step above.  You will now be able to login to the Service Center with this info.

5. Once logged into the Service Center, follow the User Registration link on the left column, where you will be able to change your email address and/or password.

I just finished my V8 Training with Bernadette. This training session was by far the VERY BEST I have taken. I have been struggling ever since I got my machine (about 18 months now) and even considered going with another software before I upgraded to the new Version 8 (thanks Daniel for convincing me to stick with Sierra).
I have invested thousands of dollars traveling for digitizing training... machine training... software training, etc. and each and every time have returned back to my Sierra Software and SWF machine perplexed and feeling inadequate.
This training turned the "light bulb" on. The class size of three (3) was perfect and we were able to ask questions as we went along.  The classes were well-paced and the topics covered were thorough, informative and well taught. I wish I were closer to Bernadette so
that I could give her a big hug.
I finally feel that I am able to put my software and machine to good use and produce a more quality product. I was amazed at all of the functionality that I was not using and the functionality that I was using wrong.
This training program is a great addition for Sierra Software.

I agree with DS whole heartedly on the training that I got this week. I knew that there was so much more to the software than I was getting.  I am a hands on person.  I can read all day and not get it, but with seeing it done, did the trick. Now when I do go to the manual, I know what to look for.
The Girls that were in the class with me were right on top of it, and asked the right questions. Most that I didn't think of. Bernadette was super. Living where I live, it would have been impossible to travel to get to classes. This was so convenient, thanks Daniel for setting this up.

Every copy of EO8 software includes a machine password.  With this machine password, you can enable your Direct Connect option, so you can transfer designs directly from the computer to the machine via cable.

EO Edit V7 vs V8

SW: I used Edit extensively in the previous version but I feel like I'm in foreign territory with V8. I cannot figure out how to do more than open the design in V8. Can someone point me in the right direction?

DF: Look at your 2nd toolbar, the 4th icon is "Edit Stitches". Enter Stitch Edit mode through that icon and the Toolbox on the left column will have all the icons from the good old EO Edit categorized in groups.

SW: I was thinking in terms of blocks, not stitches, so I was getting nowhere! That made the difference, thanks!

DF: Thinking in terms of blocks vs stitches will probably be your biggest obstacle at first, until you re-train your brain into "object edit" vs "block edit" vs "stitch edit".  Before, you had EO Design and you had EO Edit. You went to EO Edit to work on stitch files (DST), and you went to EO Design to work on wireframe files (DSG). Now, they're both combined, so you just have to remember this as you work with wireframes vs stitches.

SW: Thank you, I can now work with it instead of against it, I've been reacquainted with an "old friend", love it!!

Machine Profile & Code Interpreter

If you notice some machine commands (trims, jump stitches, centering, etc) are missing or not performing properly whenever you export or import stitch files, i.e. DST, EXP, 10o, FDR, etc, then make you sure you are using the proper Machine Profile and Machine Code Interpreter settings.

Curlz Font for v8!

A revised version of the Curlz font that was available for earlier versions of EO software, has now been made available for v8.20.

To download it, login to the Service Center and click on the Curlz Font link towards the top of the page, then click on the actual Curlz file. Note: save it to the Desktop of the computer that has your EO8 program.

To install the Curlz font, go to Start >> All Programs >> Embroidery Office >> Component Manager.  Then click on Tools >> Get Components From, and then choose Fonts from the Files of Type pull-down list at the bottom of the window.

Note: you will not see the Curlz font if you miss the above step!

Locate the Curlz file you just downloaded, double-click on it to install it, and close your way out of the Component Manager.  Next time you open your EO8 program, your Font Library will have the Curlz font, ready to use like any other keyboard Font!

First, as you browse through the Fonts section, you will see how each title has now been expanded to include the complete set of characters available for that Font, so you can check the info for your existing Fonts, as well as explore what characters are included in optional Fonts. (click on the Details button to view this info)

But you can now also download the actual Font Catalog, which includes all the info you'll ever need to know about your Sierra Fonts.

Just login to the Service Center and follow the links that take you to the Fonts section (screenshots below).

As of April 1st, 2007, Mesa Distributors has ceased to be part of the Sierra Distribution Network. Mesa Distributors consequently is no longer authorized to promote, market or represent Sierra products for any purpose whatsoever.

Here's a sample of some of the (free) good advice that regularly takes place at the (also free) Sierra users group, in this case offered to a newcomer to the industry by embroidery and digitizing guru Ian Perry.

BM: I am brand new venturing into the embroidery business (home for now, from Utah).  What is the competition like, locally, statewide and nationally?
IP: Competition is what you make of it.  Only you can answer that question locally, and then if you still want to get in, you have to figure out how to set yourself apart.

BM: Are there good distributors and bad distributors?
IP:  A good one is in a location closer to you, who will take care of you when you call at 4 pm. and send product today, to get to your client tomorrow. Try several, and find the best for you. There are many who are set up and willing to work with new businesses.

BM: Is there good software and bad software?
IP: The truth is, there is very little difference to the final file that comes out the other end of any software, it's a matter of the tools that you feel comfortable with and your skill in using what you have. You have to decide wether to just get just lettering, editing and lettering, digitizing, or more advanced features. This all depends on what your business is about.

BM: What machine would be best for starting out?
IP: A single head teaches just as well as a multi head (costs less too), and you'll need it in addition to a multi head when you grow your business to that level of needing a multihead.

BM: It seems that the overhead is quite low. Is this true?
IP: I would say the overhead is relatively high, at least compared to other types of decorating businesses, and the learning curve is steeper.  But this again is what you make of it and how you insert yourself into your niche, and work with it rather than against it.

Following up on an article that showed a quick and easy way to manually digitize Underlay areas, here are 2 Fill Patterns that go along with that concept.

Underlay20 is meant to be a tighter foundation (i.e. left chest logos), while Underlay48 could be used on very large areas (i.e. jacket backs) because of its looser stitching.

EO v8.11 released!

Embroidery Office v8.11 has been released.  This new release can be downloaded via the LiveUpdate tab of your software start page, or it can also be downloaded from the Embroidery Office Service Center.

This release must be deployed over v8.10.  If you have any other v8 release except v8.10 (i.e., you are running v8.04 or v8.05), you must update to v8.10  before you can download and install this release.

The size of the full download at the Service Center is is about 20MB total, spanning over 3 files, while the LiveUpdate version is smaller.

What's new?
This version has been prepared mainly to address the challenges presented to users running Embroidery Office on the Ultimate, Business and Home Premium editions of Windows Vista.

Improvements over v8.10
Most of the fixes introduced in this version are esentially related to compatibility issues between Embroidery Office 8 and Windows Vista.  Users running Embroidery Office on Windows XP will not observe significant changes.

When running the software on Windows Vista with the Aero interface enabled, the working area window in EO Design presented some refresh / redraw issues.  This has been addressed on v8.11.
The splash screen showed a yellow background rectangle upon launching any EO program when the Aero interface in Vista was enabled.  This has been addressed on v8.11.
When creating a custom Font in the higher levels, the size of newly created characters would not display properly on the Font Creation window.  This has been addressed on v8.11.
When running on Vista, EO Imaging presented a display problem upon inserting text in the raster layer.  This has been addressed on v8.11.
Because the DirectX engine available on Vista does not support earlier versions of DirectX, 3D Space would fail to launch altogether on Vista.  This has been addressed on v8.11.

Note: to run EO8 on Vista, you must disable the User Account Control from the Windows Control Panel.  Read article L0050 (Disabling UAC on Vista) for more info on this.
Also, make sure your computer meets the minimum / recommended requirements to successfully run EO8 on Vista.  Read article L0049 (EO8 Computer Requirements for Vista) for more info on this.

If you are still using v6.xx or v7.xx of your Sierra software, you may want to know we haven't forgotten about our users from earlier versions, and that from time to time we will continue to upload a few Components for those earlier versions.

Of course if you're on v8, you can expect similar downloads and more too, since v8 is the current version as of the date of this post.

Two new Fill Patterns are available for either v6.xx, v7.xx or v8.xx.

The v8.xx Patterns can be used with the Area with Pattern tool from that version, while the v6.xx / v7.xx Patterns can be used with the Complex Area tool from those software versions.

Version 8.10 incorporates several fixes and even a few new features, the most important being the addition of an "advanced" button to the Text box, so you can convert fonts from satins to fill.  It also adds more control for lock stitches.  The complete list of what's new on v8.10 is here.

Release Notes:

- v8.10 is a full version to be deployed over any existing v8 install.

- If you are on v7.50 or earlier, talk to your vendor regarding upgrading to v8.

- If your software is online, you can download v8.10 through the Sierra LiveUpdate service, which you can access from your software start page (activated and registered systems only).

- If your software is not online or you can't use Sierra LiveUpdate due to activation still pending, you can download v8.10 here.

Last Minute Update service!

If the computer with your Sierra software is connected to the Internet, the Live Update service is what allows you to keep your software up to date.  If your computer with Sierra software is not connected to the Internet, you can then log in to the Service Center and manually download the latest releases and patches for your software.

Until now, you could only do either of the above if you had completed your activation process.

However, and for a limited time only, this requirement is being lifted.  You can now keep your software up to date, even if you haven't completed your activation process, by using our Last Minute Update service!

Again, this service will be available for a limited time, and by no means does it replace the benefits of having your software license activated, which you should still complete before the deadline shown at the bottom of your software start page.

This release addresses the default setting for lock stitches.  This release also adds the ability to explode text strings into individual segments, so you can have access to the parameters of each individual section within text strings.

Release Notes:

- v8.05 is a Service Pack to be deployed over v8.04.  You must be on v8.04 before you can install the v8.05 Service Pack.

- If you are on v7.50 or earlier, talk to your vendor regarding upgrading to v8.

- If your software is v8.xx, but not v8.04 specifically, download and install v8.04 first, then proceed to the next step (login to the Service Center required).

- If you are already on v8.04, you can download the v8.05 Service Pack from the Download Center (login required), then install it.  Or, if you are online, you can simply bring your v8.04 up to date through the Live Update service from your EO software Start Page.

NOTE: to access the Service Center and/or to use the LiveUpdate service, your software must be registered and the activation process must be complete.

IP: copy design from corel, go to EO and paste... will ask if you want to paste as BMP (flattened) or vector (WMF) and whether you want EO to knock out overlaps... your artwork will be sized the way you had it in corel... lot easier than saving as WMF then importing... on script, try welding the text first.
